Charlotte Daniel Champions of Change Award

In honor of Charlotte (Char) Carroll Daniel’s commitment to social justice and maternal and child health, World Connect created an international award that will be granted on an annual basis to the partner hospital, health center or community organization demonstrating the strongest commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and children.

The recipient of the Charlotte Daniel “Champions of Change” Award receives national recognition for its work on behalf of women and children, as well as, a plaque and one-time contribution provided as a supplemental grant award to further the objectives of a World Connect sponsored project. 

The first recipient of the Charlotte Daniel "Champions of Change" Award was Hospital Municipal Villa Fundacion (HMVF) in the Dominican Republic. HMVF was recognized with this award for their "Partos Humanizados" project to improve the quality of health services for women and children.

To be considered for the Charlotte Daniel “Champions of Change” Award, recipients must demonstrate excellence in quality improvement, meeting the following criteria:

     - Current World Connect project able to demonstrate that it improved the health and well-being of women and children within an identified hospital, health center, community, town, village, region or country.

     - Key leaders and agents of change were identified, empowered and managed the sponsored project to further social change.

     - Outstanding community participation and stewardship of resources.

     - Data collection and reporting were both timely and accurate.

     - Lessons learned, data and progress were shared widely amongst stakeholders and members of the community.

     - Project sustainability was prioritized by participants and could be enhanced through provision of the Charlotte Daniel Award.

     - Project demonstrated success at lowering rates of maternal and newborn deaths and complications related to pregnancy and childbirth or underlying causes.
