The Charlotte Daniel Fund

In honor of Char’s commitment to social justice and maternal and infant health, Infante Sano is launching the creation of a national award in the Dominican Republic that will be granted on an annual basis to the hospital demonstrating the strongest commitment to improving the quality of services for mothers and newborns. The hospital chosen to receive the Charlotte Carroll Daniel “Champions of Change” Award in 2009 will receive national recognition for their work on behalf of women and newborns, as well as, a plaque and one-time contribution for necessary renovations in the newborn and maternal areas.

To be considered for the Charlotte Carroll Daniel “Champions of Change” Award, hospitals must demonstrate excellence in quality improvement, meeting the following criteria:

  • Identification of key leaders and agents of change
  • Participation in initial hospital-wide quality improvement training
  • Formation of active quality improvement committees
  • Timely and accurate data collection
  • Public reporting of quality improvement data and progress
  • Monthly meetings with hospital administrators and department heads to drive continuous quality improvements and goal setting
  • Demonstrated success at lowering rates of maternal and newborn deaths and complications related to pregnancy and childbirth

The Charlotte Carroll Daniel “Champion of Change” Award will be granted in December 2009.
