Infante Sano Gives Thanks

PicWith Thanksgiving upon us, it is an important time of the year to reflect on progress and give thanks.

As Infante Sano looks back on 2008, we have many things to be thankful for.

We have made significant progress in our programming, have further developed our staff, partnerships, and are poised to expand our initiatives into new hospitals and regions to broaden our reach.

This past quarter, we reached a milestone in our mission to improve the health and well-being of mothers and newborns in Latin America and the Caribbean, our 35,000th beneficiary. Our critical programs benefit women, children and the health care professionals who care for them. Among them, there are countless stories to be thankful for, like that of Sara Vickiana Rodríguez.

Sara is a 26 year-old mother who lives in La Saona, one of the poorest neighborhoods around Baní, and where Infante Sano runs one of its rural health clinics. She had one young child and was three months pregnant with her second when she came to the Infante Sano clinic for her first prenatal visit. Sara reported that she was suffering from terrible headaches. Dr. Elisa Tejada discovered that Sara had a very high blood pressure; a risky condition for both mom and baby that needed to be monitored throughout her pregnancy. She came to the clinic for routine check-ups. On the days when Sara did not show up, Nena, Infante Sano’s community health worker traveled to Sara’s home to check her blood pressure to ensure that she wasn’t in any immediate danger. Sara received the medical attention and support she needed throughout her pregnancy thanks to Infante Sano’s team and welcomed a healthy baby boy, Angel David, in July. Sara says, “Today, I am grateful for my life and that of my baby thanks to the special care we received from Infante Sano.”

We thank you, Infante Sano’s friends and supporters, for making stories like Sara and Angel’s possible. Thank you for being part of our movement to improve the lives of thousands of mothers and their babies. We hope to continue to grow our efforts, and we could not do it without your generous support!

Muchas Gracias,

Infante Sano Team
