The municipality of La Union is located in a low valley in the department in the easternmost department in El Salvador, it shares a border with Honduras. One of the poorest municipalities in the country of El Salvador, La Union has the second highest illiteracy rate in the country. Residents are poor, barely meeting their families’ needs and rarely, if ever, leaving the area. The project proposed for a World Connect Kids grant was a day trip for 60 students and their teachers to the war museum in Perkin, Morazan. The main idea was for the students and educators to actively learn about the devastating Salvadorian civil war and to finally accept that it ended 20 years ago. In the process, travellers will experience the breath-taking beauty of their own country, meet new people and replace the fear and distrust of otherness with curiosity and pride.Explore other Projects
