In 2011, World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program supported “From Girls to Women”, a one week camp for primary and secondary Maasai school girls living at a safe house in Narok, Kenya. The safe house is a rescue center for girls escaping early marriage and/or female genital mutilation. The camp consisted of a series of workshops to develop leadership and life skills, gain health knowledge and information, receive guidance in career development, and learn about environment issues and solutions. Because many of the participants were estranged from their biological families at the time of the camp, the camp provided essential support and knowledge at a critical time in the adolescence of these young girls that they may not have received elsewhere.Explore other Projects
