Aguacate RC School Feeding Program

Year: 2010
Country: Belize
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00

Project Launch:

Healthy cooking and eating habits were nonexistent in the community of Aguacate, Belize. A $500 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids program helped R.C. School launch their school feeding program that they designed to help introduce the children to a healthy and varied cultural diet. The children now grow the vegetables in organic gardens and they assist the women of the community with cooking. Children thus learned about and participated in growing and preparing food from the start to the end. The project not only benefitted the students of the school but also their families at home as students brought what they learned about gardening and cooking home. The feeding program provided an opportunity for the children to eat together and socialize, which is something they rarely did before. This project not only taught the participating children about healthy habits, but was also great fun!
