Country: Senegal
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $3,014.23

Project Launch:

The Bagadadji Youth Empowerment Camp will provide young people with a safe and constructive forum to learn life skills, practice creative expression, increase their knowledge of personal health, and improve their leadership skills. By the end of the camp, participants will have an increased knowledge of reproductive health, life and leadership skills. Each participant will be required to present their new knowledge and experience to their middle school classrooms, teachers, and family members upon returning to their communities, and will receive support from the network of local teachers and leaders who are organizing the camp to do so.

Project Update

24 youth from 10 different communities attended the four-day camp, where they participated in sessions on sexual health, nutrition, leadership development, financial planning, and goal setting. Throughout the camp, the participants developed their leadership, teamwork, and public speaking skills, while also engaging in sports and arts and crafts. Four campers will be returning for the 2015 Bagadadji Youth Empowerment Camp as Counselors in Training.

Testimonials

"I learned a lot during camp. We played a lot of fun games and talked about a lot of stuff I don't usually talk about.  I really liked the Best Game. We learned about how to spend money wisely.  I also liked the theater sketch. It was fun to make a sketch and present it to the group, and to watch the other group's sketches." - Inthi, Camp Participant
