Right Time Renovation

Year: 2016
Country: Senegal
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $1,068.79

Project Launch: 12-23-16

The Case de Sante Health Hut, constructed several years ago, was never consistently staffed by trained personnel. As a result, the building has fallen into disrepair and remains unused. This situation prevents local villagers from receiving needed care and necessitates long trips to other more distant health clinics for residents to see community health workers. In a region with elevated rates of malaria, the lack of a health hut is a major barrier to improving the local quality of life. The community has organized a team of volunteer health workers but lacks the space to treat patients. This project calls for the repair and reestablishment of the Case de Sante Health Hut so that local residents can receive the medical care they need without traveling long distances or forgoing medical services.

Project Update: 3-20-17

One latrine has been constructed and the other is already underway.  Additionally, about half of the outer fence surrounding the health hut has been renovated.  The outer wall has been added to in height as well as smoothed over on the outside: two factors that will no longer allow children to climb over it and mess up the bricks both on the wall and on the hut. Furthermore, the walkway in the front of the hut has been reconstructed so that there are no longer large holes in it and it is much more structurally sound.

Final Report: 6-27-17

As a result of this health hut renovation, men, women, and children in the village of Keur Khaly Sarata now have increased access to receive consultations from the local nurse and health education from the community health workers.  In addition, due to some of the improvements, the facility is now better equipped for women who need to give birth or simply receive pre/post-natal consultations.
