Community Library
Year: 2010
Country: Dominican Republic
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
Children in the Dominican Republic only have school for 3-4 hours a day on the days when there actually is school. Several grades share teachers and everyone squeezes into one classroom. There is often chaos in the classrooms as teachers don’t have enough resources to give each student the necessary attention. A result of the lack of attention and resources is that nearly every child fails at least one or two grades during the course of their education. By the time the kids are in high school, trying to read a book has become a difficult chore and therefore many do not wind up reading at all. To supplement the resources in the town of La Lomota, a $500 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2010 supported the development of a library in the middle of the community. To achieve this, a second story was added to the local community center.Explore other Projects
