El Rebelde Chicken Project
Year: 2010
Country: El Salvador
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $2,794.25
Project Launch:
The El Rebelde Chicken Project in San Vicente, El Salvador taught a group of enterprising women how to raise chickens. The project gave the women an opportunity to generate income, fulfill unmet protein needs in their families’ diets, and even increase educational opportunities for their children. The closest high school is two hours away and the round trip costs two dollars per day. The new source of income from chicken and egg sales helped many families raise enough money to support a higher level of education for their children. Finally, the project created a social support system, a communal “egg bank,” to sell eggs and raise money more broadly for community members in need.Explore other Projects
