Project Launch:

A $485 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids program in 2009 supported two school choirs in El Salvador, which taught participants to read music and sing, and taught guitar and keyboard to students to accompany the choirs. The school previously did not offer music instruction; many students have an interest in music but lack the means to study music. Choir does many wonderful things, mainly forming community among participants, giving families a sense of belonging, boosting the self-esteem of the young, and keeping kids out of trouble. The choirs performed at school and community events and project leaders reported that kids who couldn't previously carry a tune are singing out confidently and feeling proud of themselves after a good rehearsal or performance.
