Healthy Babies in Bushenge
Project Launch: 12-26-10
Bushenge, located in Nyamasheke district in Southwestern Rwanda, is hill country dotted by farm fields and traditional dwellings. The walk to the regional hospital center is daunting, especially for pregnant women, so the rural, outlying Muito Health Post frequently serves local women, about 13,000 residents in all. Six additional beds were much needed in the clinic, as well as additional training for the volunteers who staff it. Thanks to a World Connect grant, the clinic held trainings of 164 Bushenge Health Center nurses in reproductive health and family planning as well as, on breastfeeding and nutrition for pregnant and lactating women; the additional beds were swiftly delivered to the rural health post.
