Healthy Homes, Healthy Families
Project Launch:
In the villages of Jachaspampa and San Pedro, 264 people live off of subsistence farming, mainly potato and wheat products, and live without access to basic resources such as electricity, clean water and adequate sanitation facilities. More than half of children under five years old suffer from chronic malnutrition and 54% of them suffer from one or more parasitical infections. In response, a local Technical project Committee and the local health post are partnering with World Connect to reduce the incidence of diarrheal diseases, parasites and malnutrition in children under five by a minimum of 50%. The project will involve a series of health and hygiene trainings for mothers, followed by the construction of 51 sanitary latrines in the mothers’ homes throughout the community. The community will contribute labor and local resources, such as adobe blocks, while the local government will provide a portion of the project cost in cash and materials.
