Year: 2010
Country: Belize
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
Over the past 10-15 years at E.P Yorke High School in Belize City, Belize, the presence of gangs, increased drug usage, and rising crime rates have had a major influence on local youth. Many children who attend E.P. Yorke come from low income, single parent households. In the summer of 2008, the E.P. Yorke Management Staff created the It's Up To Me Program to provide counseling, sports, creative activities and positive mentoring to keep at risk youth in the high school system. A $500 grant from World Connect's Kids to Kids program in 2009 helped implement the program, giving kids the chance to better express themselves through reading, creative arts activities and sports. The initiative instilled a sense of responsibility, self-confidence, and discipline in participating youth.Explore other Projects
