Case de Sante Renovation, Khogue

Year: 2014
Country: Senegal
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $841.50

Project Launch: 1-20-15

The Khogue community’s Case de Sante (Health Hut) is a hub for health services for four satellite villages serving a total of 1300 people. It focuses on women and children's health, such as nutrition, reproductive health, breastfeeding and common diseases. The Case de Sante holds vaccination and deworming events, does monthly infant growth monitoring, and runs monthly nutritional activities in collaboration with local women’s groups.

This project will lead to important renovations for the Case de Sante, which will allow for better sanitation, security, organization and efficiency. The project will construct a new bathroom and shower space for mothers or other patients who stay overnight as well as install electricity to allow for safe nighttime procedures. The project will also lead to the harvest of a moringa nursery, which local women's groups will use to make nutritional powder to give to malnourished children at growth monitorings. Screen doors and windows will be purchased to keep bugs and rodents out of the health facility, and a shelving unit and table will be built to improve the hut’s ability to organize and store medical tools and supplies, records and other items.

Project Update

All the renovations are complete, meaning the Health Hut now has electricity, screen doors, bathrooms, showers, and new furniture. Local women’s groups participated in nutrition and gardening workshops, and have planted their moringa garden. Once they harvest the moringa, they will make nutritional powder to distribute to children in the community. In addition to moringa, a community member donated bissap, okra, tomato and lettuce seeds, adding more vegetables to the women’s garden.
