Project Launch:

El Socorro, El Salvador is one of the poorest areas in the municipality and most people have not had the opportunity to study past the first few years of elementary school. The students who applied for and received a $500 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2011 are some of the few that have had the opportunity to leave the community in order to study with the help of local scholarship programs. These youth, recognizing the immense problems of delinquency and gang violence facing El Salvador today, decided to take matters into their own hands by organizing a camp to help their peers by teaching them a new form of self expression and leadership skills. This two nights and three days long leadership in motion dance camp involved a group of under-privileged students from Eastern El Salvador. The goal of the camp was to encourage the students to improve their leadership skills and learn new forms of self-expression through dance and other artistic activities. This project was innovative and exciting because it was brainstormed, designed, and managed by a group of Salvadoran Youth.
