Missirah Dantila Health Post Improvement Project

Year: 2017
Country: Senegal
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $4,176.59

Project Launch: 12-8-17

The Missirah Dantila Health Post does not have a safe on-site water source. The post has access to a deep well and a water tower near its location, but these structures are not connected to one each other, nor to the health post. In addition, there is no reliable refrigeration at the health post, so vaccines spoil and many children go without their normal childhood vaccines. This project proposes to purchase a solar-powered refrigerator and a solar water pump so the post will have reliable access to safe, running water and the capacity to issue vaccines to local residents.

Project Update: 1-19-18

To date, the community has purchased all of the needed construction materials. The solar-powered refrigerator has been installed. The water tower has been repaired and the connecting lines have been laid. A small delay in fitting shower heads to the bathroom was also resolved during this phase.

Final Report: 4-12-18

All community members living in the Missirah Dantila catchment zone now have access to vaccines and a sanitary health post. Pregnant women and mothers of small children will have the most obvious benefits since they will spend the most time at the health post receiving vaccinations and staying for treatment. However, their husbands will benefit because the infant mortality rate will diminish, and their wives will be less likely to die of sanitation-related complications.
