Country: Costa Rica
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Environment
Project Investment: $500.00

Project Launch:

This project took off from Kids to Kids grant that Quebradas received in 2010 for a youth environmental summer camp, which was a huge success. The 2010 summer camp was so popular that the participants and their parents were motivated to form a Guías y Scouts group so that the youth of Quebradas could have something productive, educational and environmentally-friendly to do every weekend, not just for one week during their summer vacation. The Guías y Scouts group’s motto is "comprometidos con la conservación," or committed to conservation. The core values of this group come in part from what they learned at the 2010 environmental summer camp, thanks to the Kids to Kids Program. During the summer of 2011 camp session and with additional support from the Kids to Kids Program, the group helped organize and attended a four-day, three-night camping trip with other Guías y Scouts groups in the region. This was a very exciting opportunity for the Guías y Scouts members in Quebradas to put into practice what they learned as well as to meet and share experiences and knowledge with other youth groups from the region. Many participants have never been away from Quebradas for so long and the experience was both challenging and memorable.
