Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Economic Opportunity
Project Investment: $491.40

Project Launch:

Talibes is a word used for street children in Senegal. The Talibes beg for food and basic necessities daily. The city of Louga has pushed to improve their living conditions with various organizations in various ways, including assigning Talibes to certain families for food and hygienic support.

The community-based organization Super Crown is partnering with World Connect to take another approach to aiding Talibes. It will train twenty-four Talibes to transform black plastic bags into goods such as wallets, coin purses, and shoulder bags. Each boy will be expected to return to his Koranic school after training to teach his fellow Talibes how to make the goods. The project will teach the boys a skill that will enable them to generate income, and it will benefit the environment by reducing the amount of non-degradable waste in the community.
