Climate change has led to political and economic instability throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, presenting a serious threat to the environment and regional security. This project seeks to develop the capacity of Zambian farmers to respond to the threat of climate change, enabling them to maintain sustainable, independent, profitable agricultural operations while also allowing them to meet the dietary and nutritional needs of the surrounding community. Participants will be trained in farming best practices and given the option to cultivate drought-resistant cultivars of popular crops (such as bananas).
Final Report: 4-5-18
Over 15 families were in attendance at the 3-day training and received banana tissue culture planting materials and detailed instructions. Each family that attended the training committed to share information with at least 4 other people and train others in the community about banana tissue cultivation. Approximately 500 plants have been produced from the initial 50 plants that were slated for the project.
