Zanzi Vegetable & Fruit Farm and Agricultural Consultation Firm (ZaVeFaC)
Project Launch: 4-19-19
Zanzibar ICS Alumni started in 2017 as a community service group, engaging young people in community clean ups. With this World Connect grant, the group will develop a vegetable and fruit farm to teach people in the Pemba South Region about sustainable farming and marketing strategies, such as how to lower the costs of production, reduce post-harvest waste, and access the tourism industry. The project aims to engage 500 smallholder farmers, majority women, who want to increase the quality and quantity of their produce in order to increase their families’ incomes and improve their financial stability. Joining together through this project as a collective, the farmers will gain more economic power, allowing them to bypass middlemen who have traditionally exploited them.
