Aventura Arrecife Coral (Coral Reef Adventure)
Year: 2011
Country: Dominican Republic
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $475.61
Project Launch:
Aventura Arrecife Coral or Coral Reef Adventura aimed at educating youth about their local natural resources in a hands-on way through basic coral reef biology and a conservation charla (community talk) as well as through snorkeling activities. The project took place in Los Cacaos on the peninsula of Samana in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. Los Cacaos is a small fishing community where the local coral reefs are being overfished. The goal of this project was to raise awareness in local youth about basic coral reef biology, threats, and conservation so that they will pass knowledge about conservation on to their peers and local community members. With support from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program, this project provided participating kids an opportunity to snorkel which most of them had never done before and to learn about the rich resources of their local environment in a setting that was fun and eye opening.Explore other Projects
