Capacity Building for Girls Creativity Hub initiative
Project Launch: 9-20-21
Istarter Hub was founded in 2016 in response to thousands of students graduating secondary school, taking their JAM examinations, and then waiting for admission into a tertiary institution, without any structural plan/program in place to help these young adults remain focused on their academic pursuit. An average of 4,500 young adults graduate from secondary school in the Festac community each year and only 26% of that number gain admission into college yearly. This leaves an overwhelming amount of youth left with nothing to do, potentially leading to drug abuse, prostitution, hawking and mental health challenges. Istarter Hub has created a safe space for young women to learn and develop creative designing and entrepreneurship skills through its technology and entrepreneurship workshops and training. This training provides an alternative option to young women awaiting admission into university, but also empowers them to become business owners, develop graphic designing skills, build relationships, and discover possibilities outside of the formal education system.
