COVID-19: Food, Hygiene, and Medical Support through Colectivo Maki
Project Launch: 5-27-20
Colectivo Maki, maki meaning hand in indigenous kichwa, seeks to lend a helping hand to vulnerable communities in northern Ecuador impacted by the COVID-19 global pandemic. Colectivo Maki is a collective of both US and Ecuadorian individuals who have lived in and worked with the rural communities that the relief fund seeks to support. Grant funds will be used to provide immediate economic relief to at-risk families to cover essential costs such as food, hygiene and medical supplies, and prevention materials to families who have little or no income due to COVID-19. Many artisan families rely on tourism to generate income and will likely be impacted economically for many months. This World Connect grant will support the food, hygiene, and medical needs of 25 small families for two months.
