Clavijo Arriba is a small rural community that is working hard to provide more opportunities for children to develop, expand and learn. Crezco con Arte (I Grow with Art) is an art course implemented with the support of a World Connect grant that combined science, engineering and environment themes with art and creativity. The course gave kids a chance to explore a variety of topics through hands-on activities such as building towers out of spaghetti to learn about basic engineering principles to making musical instruments with found objects to making masks that reflect how kids want to be seen in the community. Previously the kids of Clavijo had very limited organized opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and very little time to explore. These types of exploration serve as the basis for critical thinking, flexibility and innovation. Children in the community have consistently asked for additional opportunities to be active outside of school and this project provided them with an outlet.Explore other Projects
