Life Skills Camp for Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Year: 2011
Country: Kenya
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
Nyanza Province has the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the country with one in five of Nyanza’s children orphans. Orphans are often cared for by relatives, which placees an extra economic burden on these guardians and often leads to orphans being neglected and not having the money to pay for school fees, books, or uniforms. Some children live in child-headed homes where one of the older siblings runs the household. In most cases, orphans have limited or no support. In 2011, World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program supported the Imani Community Development Organization and a local Peace Corps Volunteer in implementing a 3-day camp during the April school break for 20 orphans that gave them a chance to meet other children in similar situations and allowed them a chance to have fun, build their confidence and self-esteem, and their skills.Explore other Projects
