Raising Young Environmental Ambassadors
Project Launch: 6-9-17
Southwestern Cameroon is relatively green but this region's forests are increasingly under threat. Data suggests that Cameroon will lose 1/5 of its existing cover over the next year, a realization that does not bode well for the area's increasingly anomalous climate. This project seeks to break the cycle of deofrestation and overexploitation of land by combining environmental stewardship and economic opportunity: 20 local children will plant and care for 100 fruit-producting trees. The fruit will then be sold to create economic incentives for villagers as a method in which to prevent further cutting and burning of the area's precious forests.
