Sector: Education

Project Launch: 1-5-18

The ESGP-PA symposium is a three-day event which will engage 119 Extended Students Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGPPA) grantees -- first generation, low income college students -- in various workshops delivered by U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs), select ESGP-PA student leaders, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) personnel and University of Antique (UA) staff. The theme of this symposium is: “Poverty Alleviation 2.0. Getting out, and staying out…” The event is specifically designed to give the grantees skills to gain employment after college graduation, and by doing so, escape poverty and provide financial assistance to their families. Participants will learn about resume writing and interviewing skills. Other aspects of training will promote asset building, leadership development, and opportunities to enter the world of work.

Final Report: 4-9-18

In spite of several setbacks and a rescheduling, the event was successfully launched, over 600 people participated in the symposium's activities, fairs, and information sessions. Many graduating college seniors will now put the skills they have acquired to use during their initial round of job interviews this month, completing a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood.
